MENANDS - The death of a man on the Mohawk Hudson Bike Trail in Menands Thursday has been ruled a homicide, New York State Police said Friday morning.

Police identified the man who died as Daniel Frament, 76, of Troy.

An autopsy Friday morning, performed at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, determined his cause of death to be severe head trauma and the pathologist ruled his death a homicide, police said.

The man was discovered Thursday, just before 4 p.m., police said. Menands Police, EMS and fire responded to the trail for a report of an injured walker who was unresponsive, police said.

Life-saving measures were performed, but he died at the scene. 

Due to the nature of the injuries, the New York State Police were called in took the lead on the investigation. 

The investigation remained ongoing Friday and police asked that anyone with information to contact investigators at 518-457-9528.
